Building a Home in India: A Realistic Timeline

Months 1–3: Planning & Approvals

Hire an architect, finalise the floor plan, and apply for municipal building permission. Soil testing happens in this phase—expect 4–6 weeks for approvals depending on the city.

Months 4–9: Structure

Foundation, columns, slabs, and brickwork. Rain delays during monsoon can add 3–4 weeks; schedule concrete pours outside July–August if possible.

Months 10–15: Finishing

Plastering, electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting, and woodwork. This phase often overruns because material deliveries overlap. Build a 15 % time buffer into your plan.
