Understanding RCC: The Backbone of Modern Indian Buildings

Mix Design Basics

M20 grade concrete (1:1.5:3 ratio) is standard for residential slabs and beams. Higher grades like M25 or M30 are used for columns and foundations where loads are concentrated.

Steel Placement

Rebar must maintain a minimum cover of 25 mm in slabs and 40 mm in columns to protect against corrosion. Improper cover is a silent defect—it won't show for years but leads to spalling and rust stains later.

Curing for at least 7 days (ideally 14) by keeping surfaces wet is critical. Under-cured concrete can lose up to 30 % of its designed strength.
